NEW YORK Hybrid taxi cabs - using both electric and gasoline engines - could be on the road by this fall in New York City.
The city's taxi and limousine commission has approved the idea of using hybrid taxis - pending hearings in September. The hybrid cars use half the gasoline of the traditional cabs - but would offer less leg room in the back seat.
However T-L-C Chairman Matthew Daus says the fuel economy and reduction in gas emissions outweighs the comfort issue.
